Dr. Voyer’s ELDOA methodology rests on three pillars:
- Fascial Relational Anatomy — Understanding fascia as an omnidirectional matrix enveloping every body structure
- Tensegritive Biomechanics — Viewing the body as a tensegrity structure stabilized by constant tension and discontinuous compression
- Complexity Philosophy — Applying systems theory, emergence, and constructivism to bodily systems
-
Dr. Voyer began developing ELDOA in the late 1970s when he observed epidemic levels of lower back pain in sedentary workers. The theoretical framework was developed in the early 1980s, clinical refinement occurred through the mid-1980s, and ELDOA was formalized as a complete system with international training programs in the 1990s. See the full timeline above.

ELDOA focuses on self-treatment postures for spinal decompression. SomaTraining is a broader system including ELDOA, myofascial stretching, segmental reinforcement, and proprioceptive training. SomaTherapy is the manual therapy component taught to practitioners. All three were created by Dr. Guy Voyer as complementary parts of his comprehensive approach.
